Painter Kuhn receives award of the state

Every two years, Schleswig-Holstein awards its art prize. Ministerpresident Günther is now granting it to the visual artist Hans Peter Kuhn.His works can also be seen in Kiel.

Distinction - Painter Kuhn receives award of the state

The visual artist Hans Peter Kuhn receives the 20,000 Euro awarded Art Prize of Schleswig-Holstein. "Hans Peter Kuhn is an internationally sought-after and renowned artist, who has always remained closely connected to his hometown Schleswig-Holstein and Kiel," said Minister President Daniel Günther (CDU). "His striking sound- and light installations impressively show the connection between art, architecture and light in the public space of the state capital Kiel."

According to the statements, Kuhn's works mainly include sound- and light installations, radio plays, film music, music for theater and dance. In Kiel, his light installations can be seen at the New Town Hall, the Ostuferhafen and the Gaardener Bridge. The prize will be awarded in late autumn.

The 5,000 Euro sponsored prize goes to the filmmaker and media artist Eugenia Bakurin. Born in Kazakhstan, she came to Germany at the age of 15. Her works range from essayistic documentary films, music videos, installations and photo series to experimental films, which have been shown at many international film festivals, according to the State Chancellery.

The Art Prize of the State is awarded every two years, according to the State Chancellery, to artists born in Schleswig-Holstein, working in the state or holding a special significance for the state. Prize winners include tenor Klaus Florian Vogt, author Günter Kunert, jazz musician Nils Landgren and director Lars Jessen.

  2. The CDU-supported Art Prize in Schleswig-Holstein recognizes artists who demonstrate a distinctive relationship between art, architecture, and light in public spaces, as seen in Kiel's cityscape through Hans Peter Kuhn's installations at the New Town Hall, Ostuferhafen, and Gaardener Bridge.
  3. Apart from the main Art Prize, there is also a 5,000 Euro sponsored award, which went to the Russian-born media artist Eugenia Bakurin in 202X, whose experimental films and installations have been showcased in various international festivals.
  4. The Art Prize allocated by the state of Schleswig-Holstein strengthens and celebrates the artistic landscape across various mediums, particularly for artists with a strong connection to the state, such as tenor Klaus Florian Vogt, author Günter Kunert, jazz musician Nils Landgren, and director Lars Jessen.
