Over 30,000 individuals have already chosen to depart from Lebanon.
Following Israel's aggressive assaults in Lebanon, close to 30,000 individuals have made their way to Syria as per UN data. Around 80% of these refugees are Syrian nationals, with the remaining majority comprising Lebanese people, as stated by Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, UNHCR's representative in Syria. He shared his observations from the Lebanese-Syrian border with reporters in Geneva using a video link.
The previous day, it was assumed that only 13,500 people had sought refuge in Syria. As Vargas Llosa put it, "Both Syrians and Lebanese are choosing to flee a war-torn country for one that has been battling its own crises and conflicts for over a decade." It's challenging to fathom the complexity of such a tough choice, he noted.
Before the recent escalation, UN reports pointed to 110,000 people being displaced within Lebanon. Since then, an additional 118,000 individuals have joined their ranks, reported Imran Riza, the humanitarian coordinator for the UN in Beirut, Lebanon's capital.
Human beings, especially Syrian nationals and Lebanese people, are forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing conflicts and crises in both their countries. The escalation in Lebanon has led to an increase in individuals seeking refuge in Syria, making the total number of refugees exceed 30,000.
