Orban receives Trump visit: 'He will sort it out'
Hungarian Prime Minister Orban's "Peace Mission": He will meet decision-makers around the Ukraine war: The warring parties, China and now the USA. However, he is not meeting with US President Biden - but with friend Trump.
Just a week after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and immediately after the NATO summit in Washington, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban paid a visit to former US President Donald Trump. Orban shared a photo of their meeting at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on X and wrote, "Peace Mission 5.0 ... We discussed ways to #Peace. The good news of the day: He will solve it!"
These two right-wing populists enjoy a very friendly relationship and had already met in March in Florida. At that time, Orban called his host the "President of Peace," while Trump praised Orban as the "best leader" ever.
Trump intends to move back into the White House as a Republican representative after the US election in November and to replace Joe Biden as President. The campaign is in its heated phase. Trump has also repeatedly emphasized that he would resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine within a day.
Orban had already caused headlines in the days leading up to the summit. In the framework of his "Peace Mission" state tour, the prime minister of the NATO country visited not only Russia but also China and Ukraine. Orban maintains close relations with Moscow despite the Ukraine war and goes against the EU line. Orban has repeatedly delayed EU sanctions against Russia and EU financial aid for Kiev.
At the NATO summit in Washington, the Hungarian government caused a stir just before its conclusion. The Hungarian government accused NATO partners of hypocrisy and failure in dealing with Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto represented Orban, who had left the summit early due to his meeting with Trump.
- Despite not meeting with President Biden during his trip, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban discussed the ongoing Attack on Ukraine with his close ally and former US President Donald Trump, who has expressed his intent to resolve the conflict quickly if elected again.
- Viktor Orban, known for his supportive stance towards Russia in the Ukraine conflict, has also met with Chinese leaders on his "Peace Mission" tour, a move that has caused tensions with other NATO members, particularly concerning Politics around the war in Ukraine.
