Mussels are currently being harvested for Sylt again from domestic cultivation. The mussel farmers want to provide information about this year's quality.

Fishery - Opening of the mussel season on Sylt

The Schleswig-Holstein shellfish farmers will give an insight into the annual mussel season on Thursdays (10:00 am) in Hörnum on Sylt. They also want to talk about current challenges and successes. Economy Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) will give a keynote speech. According to the shellfish farmers' association Schleswig-Holstein, there is a protective period for mussels in the National Park Wattenmeer from April 1 to June 15. Therefore, mussels are usually harvested for consumption around the 1st of July.

The Schleswig-Holstein fishery on Sylt significantly contributes to the local economy, particularly during the mussel season. Following the annual mussel season opening event in Hörnum, Economy Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen is expected to discuss the role of the Fishery sector in the overall economy of Schleswig-Holstein.
