- Ongoing inquiry into lethal gunfire incident at Central Station
Probe into the lethal gunfire at Frankfurt's primary station is still underway. This was disclosed by Dominik Mies, the spokesperson of the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office, during the morning hours. A 54-year-old individual is being accused of shooting and killing a 27-year-old on Tuesday evening. He was apprehended shortly after the incident. Regrettably, the victim perished at the scene.
As per the reports from the investigators, both individuals involved are of Turkish origin. Their relationship prior to the incident was yet to be clarified. A warrant has been issued against the alleged killer, charging him with homicide. The incident unfolded around 21:00 right in the heart of the station.
Following the shooting incident, Frankfurt's main station had to be momentarily shut down for about 25 minutes due to police activities. This disruption affected the train schedules and passenger services. Since June 1st, a night-time weapon ban has been enforced at the main station. As per the Weapons Act, carrying weapons and knives with a fixed or folding blade over 4 centimeters long is prohibited in the station building between 20:00 and 05:00.
The investigation into the shooting incident is being handled by The Office of the Prosecutor, as they have issued a warrant against the accused. Despite the ongoing probe, the motive behind the conflict between the two individuals remains unclear.
