Once again, unwelcome weather is hindering the weekend
The summer of 2024 remains unpredictable, with a constant interplay of sun, thunderstorms, and rain. In the coming days, the weather will be particularly unpredictable over the weekend, offering a colorful mix of summer heat and storms.
A sustainable summer weather pattern with all its trimmings has yet to take hold in Germany. Most attempts to achieve a summer feeling are cut short by thunderstorms, and often accompanied by a healthy dose of storm danger. The subsequent cooling down only adds to the mood-dampener. The only constant is the uncertain. So it's no surprise that it comes again over the weekend. Thunderstorms and storm danger are once again on the agenda.
Early Thursday, the sun shines abundantly from the slightly overcast sky. However, a change is already noticeable in the course of the day. More and more clouds gather over the western and northwestern parts of Germany. Already in the evening, the first raindrops fall.
The weather dynamics increase further on Friday. In the northwestern part of Germany, the energy builds up and releases itself in the form of thundershowers. The weather effectively splits Germany in two: While eastern and southern regions are dominated by summer sunshine and temperatures up to 30 degrees, it remains changeable in the west and northwest.
The division remains in place on Saturday. In the second half of the day, the powerful showers and thunderstorms also spread to the southeastern regions. These can be quite severe. Along the air mass boundary, storms with hail, heavy rain, and strong winds threaten. Temperature differences become less significant: While only 20 to 23 degrees are expected in the west, temperatures reach 30 to 33 degrees in the southeast.
The storms come and go just as quickly. On Sunday, rain showers and thunderstorms are primarily expected in the east and southeast, otherwise the weather becomes friendlier and increasingly dry. Temperatures range from 20 to 26 degrees, noticeably cooler than before. The new week promises to be summery, with much sunshine and rising temperatures. It remains exciting whether there will be another weather shift after that.
The Met Office in the UK is closely monitoring the volatile weather patterns in Europe, particularly in Germany, due to the international interest in the unpredictable summer of 2024. Despite the meteorological challenges, many vacationers are still eager to plan their trips, hoping for a sunny weekend amidst the sporadic storms.
