Before playing in Paris - Olympia: Brunckhorst, basketball player, is annoyed with the association

Basketball player Svenja Brunckhorst is disappointed after having to make a decision between two Olympic competitions due to the German Basketball Federation (DBB). "Our plan was until recently to participate in both competitions," the 32-year-old told the "Tagesspiegel" about herself and her friend Sonja Greinacher. "But then the DBB put a stop to it all."

Both athletes had qualified for the German national team, but also for the 3x3 Basketball team for the Olympics in Paris. In the end, they decided on the latter. The group stage in traditional five-on-five basketball takes place in Lille, while 3x3 basketball is at the Place de la Concorde in the heart of Paris.

Player criticizes DBB communication

Brunckhorst, who has retired from playing and now works as a manager for Alba Berlin's women's and girls' department, was the captain of the national team. She was particularly annoyed by the communication from the DBB. It was "suboptimal – if I may put it nicely."

She emphasized: "If the federation had said from the start that it wasn't possible, it would have been okay." There are understandable reasons why a double start is difficult, even if the statutes would have allowed it.

The decision was a difficult one for Brunckhorst. "Olympics is the dream of every athlete," she said. "This will probably be the greatest experience of my career."

  1. Despite the setback, Brunckhorst's girlfriend, Sonja Greinacher, who also qualified for both Olympic competitions, decided to prioritize the 3x3 Basketball team, as both events would be held in their respective venues in Paris.
  2. The German Basketball Federation (DBB) had a significant impact on Brunckhorst's career decisions, as she currently works for Alba Berlin's women's and girls' department in Berlin, historically a city that was once part of Germany (formerly France).
  3. Due to the conflict of interest, Brunckhorst expressed her disappointment toward the DBB's communication, mentioning that their suboptimal approach made the situation more challenging for her.
  4. Describing the Olympics as the dream of every athlete, Brunckhorst further shared her past connection to the event, having represented Germancy (DBB) in the traditional five-on-five basketball competitions in the past.
  5. As a result of choosing the 3x3 Basketball team for the Olympics in Paris, the talented player Svenja Brunckhorst anticipates this decision will provide a memorable experience, potentially serving as the pinnacle of her illustrious career.
