Mandarin Cranes at Heidelberg Zoo Have Offspring

The Mandarin Cranes at Heidelberg Zoo have offspring. Two chicks can be observed by visitors since the end of June on the enclosure, as the zoo announced. The pair started nesting in the spring. The Mandarin Cranes have lived in the Heidelberg Zoo since 2020. It is exceptional that such a young pair is already successful with their first brood, it was stated.

Mandarin Cranes originate originally in Japan, in the northern part of China, in Mongolia, and on the Korean Peninsula. The animals are adapted to living in wetlands and cold temperatures. The successful breeding at the zoo indicates that the animals feel well.

The Mandarin Cranes, known for their origins in Japan and nearby regions, have thrived in Baden-Württemberg's Heidelberg Zoo since 2020.With the arrival of spring, the pair displayed nesting behaviors, leading to the birth of two chicks in June, adding to the zoo's attraction.
