Officer fires gun at assailant in Hanover's vicinity.
In Lower Saxony, a 30-year-old fellow is giving the staff at a clinic a hard time. At first, he chats them up, but later he returns and hurls insults and spat on a worker. When the cops try to nab him, he snatches a knife, leading to a shot being fired.
Over in Hanover, a 30-year-old bloke got shot by a cop who claims the guy was swinging a knife at him. The assailant took a bullet to the leg, according to the cops. Thankfully, no one else got hurt during the ruckus at Sehnde-Ilten in the early hours.
It seems this 30-year-old had a run-in with the employees at a psychiatric hospital. They called the fuzz. After some heated exchanges with the officers, the 30-year-old bailed from the hospital at first, but came back about an hour later, harrassed and threatened a worker. After that, the 30-year-old bolted again.
The cops were hot on the trail of the 30-year-old to lock him up. They found him with a knife in hand, advancing towards the cops aggressively. Despite repeated warnings to drop the knife, the 30-year-old kept getting too close for comfort. A 25-year-old cop then took aim and fired a shot at the 30-year-old, ending the hostility.
The cops are looking into the 30-year-old for his aggressive behavior towards the hospital staff and for threatening the cops. There's an investigation underway against the 25-year-old cop for causing grievous bodily harm. They're just double-checking the legality of the shooting, says the cops, every time a cop uses their gun.
