Obama questions Biden's chances of winning election

Many had questioned Biden's presidential candidacy after his disappointing TV performance. Not Barack Obama. But now, according to a report, Obama has reportedly questioned the viability of Biden's campaign.

Ex-US-President Barack Obama reportedly no longer fully supports Joe Biden's re-entry into the presidential race, according to media reports. In recent days, Obama reportedly expressed doubts about Biden's chances of winning to confidants. He allegedly urged Biden to seriously consider whether it was worth continuing his campaign. The "Washington Post" reported this based on several sources familiar with Obama's deliberations.

Biden served as Vice President under Obama from 2009 to 2017. The former President had previously boosted Biden after his weak performance in the first TV debate against Donald Trump: "Bad debates happen. I know that," Obama wrote on X. "But this election is still a choice between someone who has spent his entire life fighting for the working class, and someone who only thinks about himself. Between someone who tells the truth, can distinguish right from wrong and openly tells the American people - and someone who shamelessly lies for his own advantage."

The disastrous image Biden presented in the TV debate has left many Democrats uneasy in the past few weeks. Some openly called for Biden to withdraw. But Biden continued to affirm his intentions. A report in the "New York Times" states that Biden has become "more receptive" to arguments in favor of withdrawing in recent days. However, there are no clear signs of a change in course, the newspaper writes.

Obama has reportedly only spoken to Biden once since the debate. According to the "Washington Post," Obama emphasized in conversations that the decision about Biden's candidacy lies with the President and that he only wants to protect Biden's legacy. Behind the scenes, however, Obama reportedly talks intensively about Biden's campaign and takes calls from concerned Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi.

Obama's caution towards Biden's United States Presidential Election 2024 campaign has resonated within the Democratic party. Despite previously praising Biden after a weak debate performance, Obama is now reportedly expressing concerns about Biden's chances of winning to confidants. Even with Biden's persistent claims to continue his campaign, some Democratic figures have raised questions, citing the disastrous image Biden presented during the TV debate.
