- O2 Customers' Surfing Transitions to Vodafone, Also Involving 1&1 Users

1&1 users are about to tap into the comprehensive network of the renowned UK telecom titan, Vodafone. The two service providers inked a deal for their national roaming collaboration on Friday, as disclosed in Montabaur and Düsseldorf. This partnership's commencement date is set: Effective from the forthcoming Thursday, fresh 1&1 subscribers securing a deal will gain instant access to the Vodafone network. Moreover, existing clients will gradually transition from O2 to Vodafone by autumn 2025 in sequential phases. This strategic alliance was unveiled by the parties last year.

Similar to how 1&1, a subsidiary of United Internet, leans on competitors' networks to bolster its coverage, given its limited local network. Prior to this, it relied on the network of Telefónica Germany (O2) in the 4G standard, outside its own network's reach. With the addition of Vodafone, 1&1 users will gain convenient access to the advanced and quicker 5G mobile standard. Consequently, Vodafone will reap the benefits of this increased traffic, with intentions to channel the revenue gained towards "bigger network enhancements."

In the deal announcement, the partnership between 1&1 and Vodafone was revealed to have taken place in both Montabaur and Dusseldorf. After the partnership commences on Thursday, 1&1 subscribers will enjoy seamless 5G connectivity provided by the expanded Vodafone network in Montabaur.
