Numerous individuals indifferently take on dangers.

Despite the warning of potential cyberattacks, many people still act carelessly. The Federal Office for Information Security in Bonn reports that out of every four individuals in Germany, one has been a victim of cybercrime.

Nevertheless, 56% of people think the risk of being affected in the future by cybercrime is insignificant or nonexistent. The number of individuals unconcerned about this issue has risen by six percentage points from the previous year. Among those aged 16 to 22, the increase was even higher at 16 points. Within this age range, over two-thirds (68%) of surveyed individuals believe their personal risk of experiencing cybercrime is insignificant or nonexistent.

From February 28 to March 4, the BSI and the police from the federal and state governments surveyed more than 3,000 individuals aged 16 and older. On average, they reported taking almost four safeguards against cybercrime. The most common methods used were antivirus software and secure passwords, both at a rate of 47%. However, many young people find it challenging to adhere to these measures.

Out of those who experienced cybercrime in the past 12 months, 44% were victims of fraudulent actions, including identity theft and messenger service fraud. Meanwhile, 23% were tricked during their online shopping, and 15% during their online banking sessions.
