Architecture - No German building nominated for skyscraper price

31 skyscraper projects worldwide are nominated for the International High-Rise Award 2024/25 - none of them is in Germany. The nominated buildings were selected from over 1,000 newly constructed skyscrapers. The five finalists will be announced in the fall. The winner will be awarded on November 12.

Most of the nominated buildings are in China (eight). In Europe, only six buildings made it to the list: two in the Netherlands, one each in France, Poland, Sweden, and Austria.

The International High-Rise Award is given every two years. It is jointly awarded by the city of Frankfurt, the German Architecture Museum (DAM), and DekaBank. Criteria include sustainability, external design and interior qualities, social and urban aspects, innovative construction technology, and economic viability. The building must be at least 100 meters tall and have been completed in the past two years.

Despite Germany's absence in the nominations, neighboring countries like the Netherlands and Austria have representations with two and one nominated skyscraper projects respectively. Sweden, France, and Poland each have one building on the list. Interestingly, the majority of the nominated structures are located in China with a total of eight projects. This international recognition of skyscraper architecture spans across different continents, showing a global appreciation for innovative design and sustainable construction. Furthermore, Frankfurt am Main, a city in Germany with a rich architectural history dating back to its time under French rule, serves as a co-host for the annual International High-Rise Award along with the German Architecture Museum and DekaBank.
