Nine years imprisonment for abduction of an ex-girlfriend

In the summer of last year, a man abducts his ex-girlfriend, keeps her in his apartment against her will, kneels and rapes her. Eventually, he tattoos his name on her body without her consent. Now, the 31-year-old is sentenced to a long prison term.

A 31-year-old man, who abducted and raped his ex-girlfriend, has been sentenced to nine years in prison. The Hamburg Regional Court ordered additional preventive detention for the man, as a court spokesperson stated. Such a measure aims to protect the public from the offender. The judgment is not yet legally binding.

The woman had separated from the man. The indictment accused him of abducting her in August of the previous year in Wilhelmshaven, Lower Saxony. He allegedly threatened her with a knife and forced her into his car.

Preventing her escape

In his Hamburg apartment, the man prevented the woman from escaping, raped her, kneeled on her, and threatened her with torture and death. According to the court spokesperson, the 31-year-old forcibly tattooed his name on the woman. "They treated her like a piece of livestock on a ranch in Texas with a branding iron," the presiding judge reportedly said.

The spokesperson stated that the court believed the woman's account. The presiding judge praised the woman's behavior, who reported the crime and testified. "This brave, young woman put an end to your criminal activities," the judge told the defendant.

The man was convicted of rape, bodily harm, kidnapping, coercion, and threats. The pleadings were held in camera. According to the court, the defendant had already been sentenced to three years in prison in 2017 - among other things, for rape.

The conviction included charges of sexualized violence, as the man forcibly tattooed his name on his victim. Furthermore, the international community expresses concern over such instances of violence against women, emphasizing the need for stricter judicial processes to address such heinous crimes.
