NFL matches set for Christmas Day broadcast on Netflix in significant move into live sports streaming.
Netflix secured a three-year agreement on Wednesday to stream the NFL's Christmas Day games, marking a significant step for the streaming platform. So far, Netflix has concentrated on creating sports documentaries and specials on golf and tennis. This year, they'll show two Christmas NFL games worldwide. From 2025 to 2026, they'll stream at least one holiday game. The financial details of the agreement weren't shared.
Netflix's chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, expressed excitement about the collaboration: "No live annual events, whether sports or otherwise, can compete with the audiences an NFL game attracts. We're ecstatic that the NFL's Christmas Day games will only be available on Netflix."
This year's Christmas Day games broadcast information was set to be revealed on the NFL Network and its website Wednesday night. The anchors and commentators for Netflix's games were also not yet named.
Hans Schroeder, the NFL's executive VP of media distribution, explained, "The NFL on Christmas has become a tradition, and teaming up with Netflix, a service with its busiest day being this holiday, is the ideal alliance to grow this event globally for NFL fans."
NFL games are consistently the most-watched TV shows every week during the season in the US, with the addition of Netflix potentially extending their audience both domestically and internationally. The NFL recently announced it will play five international games in three countries this upcoming season.
The NFL now has partnerships with all major US broadcast networks and most significant streaming platforms, including Amazon's Thursday night game package and YouTube TV's Sunday Ticket.

Netflix's foray into live sports streaming isn't limited to NFL games; it could potentially expand its business in the Media sector, possibly securing rights for other prominent sports events.
With Netflix streaming NFL games, the partnership could open up opportunities for the Media company to collaborate with other sports leagues, further expanding its presence in the live sports streaming scene.
