New photos of wanted RAF terrorist published
Numerous armed robberies are suspected to have been committed by Ernst-Volker Staub with accomplices. For decades, the alleged RAF terrorist has been living in hiding. The public release of new photos by the authorities now offers hope for a breakthrough in the investigation.
In connection with the search for the elusive alleged RAF terrorist Ernst-Volker Staub, investigators have released new images of the suspect. The first image is believed to have been taken around 2002, as stated by the Prosecutor's Office in Verden and the Criminal Investigation Office (LKA) in Hannover.
This photo shows him in his late forties or fifties. The second image, according to the investigators, is a so-called aging image created by the LKA. "He might look something like this today, in his late sixties," they said. The 2002 photo was discovered during the analysis of evidence and digital data, the LKA and Prosecutor's Office revealed. "Based on important evidence," it is assumed that Staub stayed at Daniela Klette's Berlin apartment at least temporarily in 2002.
The release of these photos is hoped to yield leads on Staub's whereabouts. He, along with Burkhard Garweg, have been wanted since 2015. The third member of the trio, Daniela Klette, was arrested in Berlin in February 2023. Staub, Garweg, and Klette are suspected of committing armed robberies on money transporters and supermarkets between 1999 and 2016. Their criminal activities are believed to have financed their lives in hiding for over 30 years.
Earlier, the three were believed to have belonged to the command structure of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF) and participated in attacks. The RAF was active from the early 1970s to the early 1990s. The group is attributed to over 30 murders. In 1998, the RAF declared itself dissolved.
- The State Office of Criminal Investigation in Lower Saxony, specifically the Criminal Investigation Office in Hanover, has been actively involved in the investigation of Ernst-Volker Staub's alleged crimes.
- The photos released by the authorities, including one taken in Hannover around 2002, could potentially provide valuable information to international law enforcement agencies searching for Staub and his accomplices, like Burkhard Garweg, wanted since 2015.
- In the past, Staub, Garweg, and their associate Daniela Klette were associated with the Red Army Faction (RAF), a left-wing extremist group known for its criminal activities in various parts of Germany during the 1970s and 1980s.
