Presidential election - New phase in US election campaign - Harris sees fundraising boom

One week after Joe Biden's withdrawal from the US presidential race, the campaign in the USA has entered a new phase, according to Kamala Harris' team. They claimed to have collected donations totaling 200 million dollars (approximately 184 million Euros) since the previous Sunday. Donald Trump sharpened his rhetoric against Harris during weekend appearances. The presidential election takes place on November 5, which is in 100 days.

Harris' Fundraising Boom

Harris' team described the fundraising results of the past few days as "record-breaking." Two-thirds of the money came from first-time donors. This suggests that Harris enjoys broad support within the party's base.

Biden proposed Harris as a replacement after his withdrawal from the presidential race. The 59-year-old must still be officially nominated by the Democrats. She managed to rally all major supporters behind her in a short time. Harris held her first fundraiser on Saturday.

Trump intensifies Rhetoric

Trump, who has already been nominated by his party, attacked Harris with renewed ferocity. Harris is a "failure on all levels," Trump told supporters in the state of Minnesota on Saturday. If a "crazy liberal like Kamala Harris" moves into the White House, the American dream is "dead."

A Win for Harris Means "Four More Years of Extremism, Weakness, Failure, Chaos, and Probably a Third World War." Trump accused Harris of failing at immigration policy. What she had done disqualified her for the presidency.

Trump's Remark about the 2024 Election Sparks Outrage

Trump stirred up controversy during the campaign once again - and left room for interpretation in some of his statements. Trump's remark about the US election in four years also caused a stir over the weekend.

During a campaign event for conservative Christians in Florida on Friday evening, Trump called on people to vote and said, "This is the only time you're going to have to do this. You won't have to do this again." According to the election in four years, everything would be put in order, everything would be good. "You won't have to vote again, my wonderful Christians."

Harris' team interpreted Trump's statement as a hint that the Republican wanted to abolish democracy if he returned to the White House. The statement fits with other statements Trump made, such as "I'm just a dictator for a day," Harris' team pointed out on Saturday.

Security Debate Continues for Trump

Since the attack almost two weeks ago, Trump has not held any public events due to security concerns. But he indicated on his online platform Truth Social on Saturday that he wanted to hold rallies again.

"I will continue to campaign in public," Trump wrote in capital letters. The Secret Service has agreed to significantly reduce his protection. The right to free speech and assembly must not be stopped or restricted by anyone or anything, the Republicans insisted.

Trump had also announced earlier that he wanted to return to the site of the attack in Butler, Pennsylvania, to hold a "big and wonderful" rally. "What a day that will be - fight, fight, fight!" Trump did not provide further details at the time.

On July 13, a protester at a rally in Butler opened fire from a nearby roof on Trump. The assailant was killed by security forces. One visitor died, and two others were injured. Trump was wounded in the right ear.
