New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expresses his support for renewed cooperation with the EU
**A Summit as a New Start for Europe: New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke at the European Political Community (EPC) meeting on Thursday in favor of renewed and deepened cooperation with European partner countries. Nearly four and a half years after Brexit, Starmer expressed his desire for Britain to be "friend and partner" once again.
"We want to work together with all of you to restore relationships, rediscover our shared interests, and renew the bonds of trust and friendship that hold the European way of life together," Starmer said at the start of the meeting at Blenheim Palace north of Oxford, the birthplace of his legendary predecessor Winston Churchill.
The EPC consists of the 27 EU countries and 20 third countries from Albania to Ukraine. At its fourth meeting, several heads of state and government participated, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who had proposed the founding of the Community following the Russian attack on Ukraine almost two years ago. EU Council President Charles Michel and EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell were also present.**
