Netanyahu thanks Biden for support

During his US trip, Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu makes a stop at President Biden's White House - and finds praise for his plans. The 81-year-old has announced that he intends to make efforts to end the Gaza War in his remaining tenure.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to President Joe Biden during their meeting at the White House in Washington D.C. "I want to thank you for 50 years of public service and 50 years of support for the State of Israel," Netanyahu said during their meeting.

Netanyahu and Biden exchanged handshakes, with the Israeli Prime Minister also expressing his excitement "to discuss with you today and work together in the coming months." Biden had stated in a televised address a few days after his surprising decision not to run for re-election that he would focus on issues such as ending the Gaza War during the remaining months of his presidency.

The US has supported its close ally Israel militarily and diplomatically since the unprecedented attack by the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas on the country on October 7. However, there have been significant differences and even irritations between the two governments regarding Israel's military actions.

Netanyahu delivered a speech before the US Congress in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, which was accompanied by protests in the US capital. A group of demonstrators defaced several memorials near Union Station, the city's main train station, and burned American flags, among other things.

The democratic Vice President and potential presidential candidate Kamala Harris condemned the burning of the US flag as "despicable." "The flag is the symbol of our highest ideals and should never be treated in this manner," Harris stated. During the protests against Netanyahu, there were "despicable acts by unpatriotic protesters and dangerous, hate-filled slogans," she added.

Following their meeting, President Joe Biden expressed his intention to focus on efforts to end the Gaza War in the remaining months of his presidency. In a separate development, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressed his support for Biden during his US trip and praised his decades-long service and support for Israel.

Despite the ongoing tensions between their governments, the US continued to support Israel militarily and diplomatically in response to Hamas's attack on the country. Vice President Kamala Harris, a potential presidential candidate, strongly condemned the despicable act of flag burning during protests against Israeli Prime Minister Joe Biden in Washington D.C.
