Nestlé faces a hefty fine of two million euros in France
Nestlé's Mineral Water Division gets slapped with a €2 million fine in France, thanks to fraud and environmental concerns. The legal eagles in Epinal, France, in the Vosges region, announced a legal settlement with Nestlé Waters. The company has agreed to cover environmental damages, in addition to the hefty fine.
This decision was drawn up following the results of two preliminary investigations. The first one pointed out some administrative permit irregularities at nine out of 130 water intake points of Nestlé Waters. The second investigation uncovered the unauthorized use of UV radiation and activated carbon filters on mineral water. Although these treatments are suitable for tap water, they're not approved for spring and mineral water, which is marketed as costly, naturally pure water.
The legal eagles in Epinal confirmed that Nestlé Waters fixed the identified issues, halted the unapproved water treatment procedures, and offered "extensive" assistance to the judicial and administrative officials. No negative impacts on public health were reported in this instance.
The fine of €2 million imposed on Nestlé's Mineral Water Division is equivalent to around 2,000,000 units in millions. This fine is a part of the overall settlement that includes payment for environmental damages, amounting to a substantial sum in millions.
