NATO summit discusses the capabilities needed to defend the alliance
The NATO summit is taking place on this Wednesday in Washington, discussing the capabilities the alliance needs for defense and deterrence in the face of international threats. The alliance with its 32 members has been considering this since the Russian aggression against Ukraine began. The constant threats against the democratic island state of Taiwan also alarm NATO.
Invited to the summit from the Indo-Pacific region are Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Australia. In the evening, US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill will receive the heads of state and government for a dinner at the White House. NATO celebrates its 75th anniversary in Washington. For Germany, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz is participating.
At the NATO summit, discussions revolve around enhancing the alliance's skills for defense, particularly in response to ongoing international threats. Given the tensions with Russia and threats against Taiwan, the alliance's commitment to defense is of utmost importance. In honor of NATO's 75th birthday, US President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, will host a dinner for the attending heads of state and government.
