Nato criticizes China sharply for supporting Russia in the Ukraine war
Nato criticized China in unusually sharp terms for its support of Russia in the Ukraine war, prompting angry reactions in Beijing. China was labeled a "decisive accomplice" in Russia's aggression war, according to the statement from the leaders' summit held in Washington on Wednesday. China reacted angrily and warned Nato against "provoking a confrontation". The alliance decided to provide military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 40 billion Euros.
Nato expressed "deep concern" over China's close ties to Moscow. China has become a "decisive supporter" of Russia's war against Ukraine," the 32 member-states declared at the end of the Nato summit.
They urged Beijing to "cease all material and political support" for Russia's aggression. The Chinese government has not publicly condemned Russia's aggression against Ukraine and continues to supply both civilian and military useful items to Moscow.
Nato Secretary-General Stoltenberg spoke of the "strongest message" ever sent to China, urging them to reconsider their position. However, possible sanctions are a matter for individual member states.
A spokesperson for the Chinese mission to the EU rejected Nato's accusations on Thursday. The alliance should "stop exaggerating the so-called threat from China and provoking confrontation and rivalry," they said. It is commonly known that "China is not the cause of the Ukraine crisis." The Nato's remarks were deemed "unjustified and provocative" by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian.
Nato's criticism of China's support for Russia in the Ukraine-War has led to indignation in Beijing. Despite the strong condemnation by Nato, China continues to provide both civilian and military support to Russia. This situation has strained relations between China and NATO, with China warning against any provocation.
