Musk relocates X and SpaceX headquarters to Texas

Elon Musk is becoming more of a figurehead for the American Right. Now he is moving two more companies from liberal California to Texas.

The tech billionaire had already relocated Tesla, the electric car manufacturer, to Texas.

Texas instead of California - Musk relocates X and SpaceX headquarters to Texas

Tech-Billionaire Elon Musk shifts the headquarters of his space company SpaceX and the online platform X from California to Texas. Musk cited a California law as the reason, which makes it difficult for schools to inform parents about their children's sexual orientation. Now, the consent of the children is required. Musk called this law the last straw that led to the move at X.

Musk is politically on the right in the United States and has spoken out against the medical care of teenagers who do not identify with their biological gender. According to his biography published last year, this also has a personal history. One of his older children underwent a gender change and no longer wants contact with Musk, as his biographer Walter Isaacson wrote.

SpaceX had its headquarters in Hawthorne in the Greater Los Angeles Area until now - although large parts of the facilities, including the rocket ramps, were already in Texas. The site named Starbase is expected to become the future headquarters of the company.

"Bands of violent drug addicts"

X kept the headquarters in San Francisco for its successor to Twitter - and is now moving to Austin. Musk linked the announcement with a jab at the city, which is seen as in decline in conservative political circles. He had had enough of hiding from "bands of violent drug addicts" just to get into the building, Musk wrote at X. The Tech-Billionaire is also CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla and already moved the company from Palo Alto in the California Silicon Valley to Austin. He was dissatisfied with the lockdowns at the beginning of the Corona Pandemic, which also temporarily paralyzed Tesla's production in its California plant in Fremont. Musk called the restrictions designed to protect people from infection "fascist".
