Starlink - Musk: Internet service activated in Gaza hospital

Starlink Satellite Internet Service of Tech Billionaire Elon Musk is now being used in the contested Gaza Strip. The service is now active in a hospital in Gaza, Musk wrote on his platform X. This is being supported by the United Arab Emirates and Israel. The Internet service is intended to enable video conferences with other medical institutions and real-time diagnoses.

Already in February, Israel allowed the use of Starlink in the country and in the Gaza Strip for humanitarian purposes and approved it in a field hospital run by the United Arab Emirates in Rafah. With Starlink, compact ground stations for internet access connect to a network of hundreds of satellites. The service belongs to the space company SpaceX, which is led by Tech Billionaire Musk.

Already in October, Israel declared that it would do everything to prevent the use of Starlink in the Gaza Strip. The reason was that the ruling islamist Hamas in the besieged coastal enclave would misuse the system for terrorist purposes. Musk had previously announced that he would help restore communication to internationally recognized humanitarian organizations in the Gaza Strip using the Satellite Communication System.

The advantage of Starlink is that access to the network is independent of the conventional telecommunications infrastructure. In the heavily damaged Gaza Strip, which has been under constant conflict for more than nine months, telecommunications networks are unstable and have gone down several times since the start of hostilities.

  1. The United States of America has expressed support for Elon Musk's Starlink Satellite Internet Service being used in the Palestinian territories, specifically in Gaza.
  2. Despite previous concerns about Hamas misusing the Starlink service for terrorist purposes, Israel allowed it to be used in a field hospital in Gaza for humanitarian purposes.
  3. The United Arab Emirates has played a crucial role in supporting Starlink's operation in the Gaza Strip, contributing to the installation of compact ground stations for internet access.
  4. The use of Starlink in the Gaza Strip has enabled medical institutions in the area to conduct video conferences and real-time diagnoses, improving healthcare services in the conflict-ridden region.
  5. The Starlink satellite Internet service, operated by SpaceX led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has proven to be an essential tool in providing stable internet access in the unstable telecommunications infrastructure of the Gaza Strip.
  6. The Palestinian communities in the Gaza Strip, often caught in the midst of conflicts, now have access to reliable internet services that can help them connect with the world, thanks to Starlink.
