Right before the European election, thousands of people assembled in Berlin to protest against right-wing extremism, as per police reports. The demonstration was happening without creating any trouble. There was an influx of many individuals. The protesters' signs carried messages like "Prefer Love Over Hate", "Respect Human Rights, Not Right-Wing Individuals", and "Appreciate Diversity Without Alternative". Around 10,000 participants were on the list.

A coalition of various social organizations had called for rallies in several German cities such as Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, and Dresden, under the slogan "Put a Stop to Right-Wing Extremism. Defend Democracy".

In Berlin, the coalition had invited Matthias Ecke to speak. He is a Saxon SPD candidate in the European elections, who was beaten up while hanging up campaign posters in Dresden back in early May.
