There was a lively and vibrant scene everywhere: Thousands flooded the streets in various German cities, rallying for the liberties of lesbian, gay, and non-straight individuals. Approximately 22,000 individuals attended the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Bremen, as per police reports. Similarly, around 2,500 individuals participated in Magdeburg and 1,700 in Jena, Thuringia, joining the march to promote acceptance and diversity.

In Bremen, many notable politicians took part in the city center march. In Jena, the organizers estimated approximately 3,000 participants. The authorities reported no incidents.

A smaller turnout was observed in Jena than anticipated

Before the event, organizers in Jena had expected over 5,000 individuals. The scorching heat appeared to keep some people indoors, a spokesperson stated. "We also know that many individuals chose to support the CSDs in Magdeburg or Plauen," they added. Right-wing counter-protests had been scheduled in both cities.

In Magdeburg, many participants shielded themselves from the sweltering heat of over 30 degrees Celsius using colorful umbrellas or rainbow flags. Loud music echoed from speakers installed on various vehicles, there were bubbles of soap, singing, and extravagant costumes such as large angel wings.

Approximately 250 individuals had registered for a counter-demonstration. In the past, there had been protests from right-wing extremists against the Christopher Street Day in the eastern German cities of Bautzen and Leipzig, characterized by aggression and violence towards CSD participants.

The CSD commemorates the uprisings of the queer community that took place in New York City's Christopher Street in 1969, symbolizing the visibility and equal rights of the queer community. Alternative names for the now annual CSD demonstrations are "Pride Parade" or "Gay Pride".

The vibrant scene in Jena was slightly Muted due to the anticipated crowd being smaller than expected. Despite the heat, many participants still waved their rainbow flags and joyously sang along to the music.

Despite the scorching heat, the scene at the CSD in Magdeburg was still filled with excitement, with participants using umbrellas and rainbow flags to shield themselves from the sun.
