Multiple kids hurt in lightning accident in the Czech Republic

A rainy and unplanned event took place in Liberec, Czech Republic where a children's festival was in progress. The day was supposed to be filled with fun and joy, but a massive thunderstorm threw everything off track. People had gathered under a tree to escape the rain, but little did they know that lightning strike was about to happen!

Depending on the sources, around 18 people, including 9 children, have been reported with injuries from the lightning strike in Czech Republic. The victims were quickly rushed to nearby hospitals, with some needing emergency intervention. However, no burns or surgery were required. The tragic incident took place in the Vratislavice nad Nisou district's castle park, upon the International Children's Day celebrations. Paramedics were able to revive five individuals at the scene. A child was airlifted to the Motol University Hospital in Prague.

"A tree was struck by lightning during the rain and storm," provided the police spokesperson to the CTK agency. The park was flooded with people trying to find safety under the tree, and unfortunately, that's where the lightning decided to strike. In June, the Czech Republic commemorates the International Children's Day. Although not directly linked, the whole state was marred by numerous problems due to heavy rains and storms. Everywhere in western Czech Republic, rivers flooded.

Authorities in the city of Pilsen posted a warning on social media, urging their citizens not to approach the riverbanks. "The water's power is immense," warned the Mayor Roman Zarzycky. Trains in areas between Pilsen and Strakonice were shut off due to landslides. The state meteorological service, CHMU, predicted further thunderstorms in the afternoons.
