A group of individuals, including close relatives and acquaintances of 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn and 53-year-old Cristina Irimie, gathered to bid their farewells at two separate afternoon ceremonies.

These individuals were among four individuals who lost their lives on September 4 at Apalachee High School, as a result of a shooter armed with an assault rifle. In addition to Irimie and Schermerhorn, another teacher and eight students were harmed.

The Romanian Orthodox service dedicated to Irimie was marked by refrains and hymns, and the service alternated between English and Romanian. The presiding priest declared, "We've gathered today to offer prayers for a noble soul. Grieving family members, friends, colleagues, and numerous individuals across the nation and beyond are mourning the loss of a cherished wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, parish member, colleague, teacher, and fellow citizen."

There was a significant turnout in honor of Schermerhorn at the memorial ceremony, which was held at a civic center in Jefferson. Mason's family requested that those in attendance wear red, which was his favorite color.

According to his obituary, Mason enjoyed playing video games, was fond of Disney and LEGOs, and cherished time with his family. A neighbor, Tommy Pickett, remembered his transformation over the past decade, from an inquisitive young boy to a happy teenager always giggling.

Irimie was well-known for teaching children dance along with algebra and was an active member of the Metro Atlanta Romanian expatriate community. Her service was held at a funeral home in Buford, followed by a memorial meal at Saints Constantine and Helen Romanian Orthodox Church.

The funerals serve as another chance for Apalachee High School's student body and faculty of 1,900 students to express their sorrow. While Barrow County's other schools reopened last week, no date has been set for Apalachee High School's students to return.

A private funeral was held last weekend for 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall, a math teacher and the school's defensive coordinator. Aspinwall, along with Schermerhorn, Irimie, and 14-year-old student Christian Angulo, was among those killed in the attack.

Angulo's family has scheduled his funeral service for Friday at a church.

Local authorities have charged a 14-year-old student, Colt Gray, with murder in relation to the high school shootings. His father has also been charged with second-degree murder, for providing his son with the weapon utilized to kill the children.

Authorities declared that the teen surrendered to the school resource officers who confronted him approximately three minutes after the initial gunshots were heard. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation claims the teenager concealed the semi-automatic rifle in his backpack and rode the bus to school with it.

At the memorial ceremony for Mason Schermerhorn, his family requested that everyone wear red, which was his favorite color. During the Romanian Orthodox service for Cristina Irimie, the presiding priest mentioned that numerous individuals across the nation and beyond were mourning the loss of a cherished family member and friend.
