Head-on collision - Motorcycle rider dies during overtaking

A motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a car near Pohlheim in the Gießen district, while overtaking in opposite traffic. The 54-year-old driver was killed on the spot, according to witnesses. The man had reportedly overtaken a car in front of him between Holzheim and Dorf-Gull, but failed to notice the oncoming vehicle. The police reported the incident in the evening. Despite immediate assistance, the man died at the scene.

The 22-year-old driver and 65-year-old passenger of the oncoming car were reportedly injured and taken to the hospital. The road was closed for over three hours at the accident scene. In addition to numerous emergency services, a rescue helicopter and a police helicopter were also in operation.

The incident occurred on a road in the Gießen District, specifically near Pohlheim. This area is known for its heavy traffic and frequent instances of overtaking, including against the flow of traffic or 'counter traffic'. The Automatic Accident Detection System in Hesse reported an increase in such 'collisions' recently. Unfortunately, similar 'accidents' often lead to gridlocks, prolonging the commute for others in the district.
