ADAC-Survey - Most Germans consider themselves good drivers
Driver's in Germany, according to a recent survey by the market research institute Bilendi on behalf of ADAC, are confident in their own driving abilities. 82% of the respondents in the online survey indicated that they consider themselves good or very good drivers. Only around one percent assessed their own skills at the wheel as poor, while 17% considered them average.
At the same time, almost half of the respondents admitted to making regular driving errors. Forty-seven percent of the participants stated that they had exceeded the speed limit at some point. About one third did not always maintain the required distance to the vehicle in front. Approximately the same number admitted to occasionally eating or drinking while driving. Furthermore, 16% of the respondents reported using their mobile phone during driving – among the respondents between 18 and 29 years of age, this was the case with around 35% more than double.
1000 Drivers questioned for ADAC study
The institute Bilendi surveyed 1000 driver's licence holders and drivers aged 18 and above, who are co-decision makers in car insurance, online in June for this representative survey.
In the comprehensive survey conducted by Bilendi for ADAC in Munich, German drivers showed confidence in their skills, with 82% considering themselves competent or excellent drivers. Surprisingly, despite this confidence, 47% of the participants acknowledged making frequent driving errors, such as exceeding the speed limit. The survey also revealed that automatics are increasingly popular in Germany, with 53% of respondents owning or planning to own an automatic vehicle.
