Moscow's Top-Economist dies after falling from the window
Once again, a person falls out of a window to their death in Russia. Valentina Bondarenko is a top economist of the country. Some Russians suspect that the Kremlin is involved in the death. However, the authorities have a different explanation.
Russian economist Valentina Bondarenko died after falling from the window of her Moscow apartment. The 82-year-old could not be revived by emergency services, according to reports from news agency TASS. "She fell out of the window of her apartment. Unfortunately, it was not possible to save her. The injuries she suffered were incompatible with life," an anonymous source within the Russian authorities reportedly said. Bondarenko is added to a long list of prominent Russians - oligarchs, managers of state corporations, scientists - who have died in similar circumstances since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The circumstances of the fall are still unclear. A potential motive seems to have been ruled out. A source from the emergency services reportedly told TASS that Bondarenko's death "is not of a criminal nature." She had been ill for a long time, it is said. What she was suffering from is not known. According to US magazine "Newsweek," in the Russian Telegram channel MK: Urgent News, "Superficially, it looks like a suicide, but the investigators are also checking the accident version." The origin of this information is unclear.
Besides mourning her death, social media is abuzz with speculation about possible outside involvement. On X, it is written next to "Sad news about the tragic fall of Valentina Bondarenko. Her expertise in socio-economic forecasting will be sorely missed," also "Another victim of the damned Putin and his shameless uncertainty and paranoia. Rest in peace, Valentina Bondarenko."
Bondarenko has worked at the Institute for Economic Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow since 1988. She completed her postgraduate studies at the institute in 1991 with a dissertation on political economy, and during her career she published over 220 works in Russia and international publications. She was a leading researcher at the Center for Socio-economic Development and headed an economic foundation in the Russian capital.
The death of Valentina Bondarenko, a prominent economist from Russia, occurred in Moscow. Amidst political uncertainties and suspicion, investigations are underway to determine if her fall from a window was an accident or something more.
