War against Ukraine - Moscow reports massive drone attacks in southern Russia
In Ukrainian drone attacks on targets in Southern Russia, according to official reports, a child has died. A six-year-old girl is said to have succumbed to injuries she received during a drone attack on the city of Primorsko-Achtarsk, wrote the Governor of the Krasnodar Region, Venyamin Kondratyev, on Telegram. Five other people were injured. According to the Governor, a three-story residential building was heavily damaged by the debris of a downed drone. There is a military airbase in Primorsko-Achtarsk from which Russian drones regularly take off towards Ukraine.
In the small coastal town, there were also reports in the media that an power station had been hit. Shared videos on social media are said to show the moment of the explosion.
Media: Refinery near Rostov under fire
The neighboring region of Rostov-on-Don was also affected by the attacks. Governor Vasili Golubev wrote that the air defense had intercepted all drones, so that only scattered "fires in the landscape" had occurred. The independent portal Astra reported that an oil refinery in the area had been hit. There is no information on the extent of the damage.
In the region of Kursk, adjacent to Ukraine, damage to a music school and several shops was reported in a village following a drone attack, according to Governor Alexei Smirnov.
The Defense Ministry in Moscow reported the interception of 14 drones over the Krasnodar region, 10 drones over the Rostov region, and 26 drones over the annexed part of the South Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia. The military traditionally made no statements about damages.
Since Russia began its offensive war against Ukraine more than two years ago, it has regularly shelled civilian objects in the Ukrainian hinterland. However, the border regions in Russia are also complaining about increasing shelling from the Ukrainian side. The number of casualties and the extent of the damages, however, are not in proportion to the damages caused by Russia.
