Urban development - More than eight million euros for urban development projects

The Robotron-Canteen in Dresden, the "Goldener Löwe" Memorial in Eisenach, and the former residence of "Turnfather" Jahn in Freyburg are being supported by the Federal Government. They are "National Urban Development Projects." Over eight million Euros are being given for the renovation and development of these places, according to the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. These three historical sites in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia make up a total of 17 projects that are receiving approximately 50 million Euros from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure this year.

In connection with the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, these places were chosen as they are particularly linked to democracy building and remembrance, said Federal Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD). They are very diverse: a farmstead is just as much a part of it as an abbey and a former prison. All projects highlight that they are both complex to develop and have overregional significance.

Projects in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia

According to ministry information, the former Robotron canteen in Dresden (Saxony) is to be developed into an international cultural and meeting place. It is a monument of Ostmoderne. For this, the Federal Government is providing four million Euros.

With the extension and new concept of the Ludwig-Jahn-Museum in Freyburg (Saxony-Anhalt), space is to be created for a critical examination of Turnvater and his relationships to German democracy history. Here, the Federal Government is providing 3.3 million Euros.

In Eisenach (Thuringia), according to the information, the place at the Memorial to the History of the German Labor Movement is being renovated with 650,000 Euros. The "Goldener Löwe" Memorial is one of the most important places in German democracy history.
