More than 50 dead in landslide in Southwest Ethiopia

In the southwest of Ethiopia, more than 50 people have lost their lives in a landslide. "After a landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall in the morning, over 55 bodies have been recovered," a district administration official, Dagmawi Zerihun, announced. The number of fatalities is expected to rise.

The authorities launched a search for survivors and more missing persons. Among the dead were reportedly several children. The authorities released photos showing residents gathered at the foot of a hill where the landslide occurred. In 2018, over 30 people were killed in landslides in the region.

Ethiopia's search efforts for survivors in the Southwest region continue, as more missing individuals remain unaccounted for. Despite the recovery of more than 55 bodies, the number of Southwest's victims of death from the landslide is anticipated to still increase. Regrettably, among the deceased were reportedly several innocent young children.
