Over 400,000 people have left the Catholic Church in Germany in the past year.

The exact number was 402,694, as the German Bishops' Conference announced on Thursday in Bonn. The number of departures was, however, below the level of the previous year 2022, when, according to the Bishops' Conference, more than 520,000 people left.
