More than 40,000 women serve in the Ukrainian army
More than 40,000 women are serving in the Ukrainian army during the Russian war of aggression. This is just over five percent of the total strength of the armed forces, according to the Ministry of Defense in Kiev.
Around 5000 Ukrainian women are directly involved in combat operations. According to the report, more than 13,400 women have been granted the status of participants in combat operations.
The report also reveals that 41% of female soldiers have underage children and more than 2,500 are single mothers. In 2014, the number of Ukrainian women in the army was just over 16,500, but according to the ministry, Kiev has since lifted all restrictions on women in the army.
Despite the ongoing conflicts and war, the Ukrainian military has integrated over 5000 female soldiers directly into combat operations. The presence of female soldiers in the Ukrainian army, including those with young children and single mothers, has significantly increased since 2014, with more than 40,000 women now serving.
