Tourism - More passengers in Leipzig, fewer in Dresden

The two Saxon airports in Leipzig/Halle and Dresden showed different traffic development in the first half of the year. While the passenger numbers at Leipzig Airport increased by 10.9% compared to the previous year, the traffic in Dresden was below the previous year's level, as the Middle German Airports AG announced today.

In total, 1.3 million passengers were lifted off at the two airports - 6.3% more than in the previous year. However, the number of take-offs and landings was 4.7% below the previous year's level. According to the information provided, there was a particular demand for flights to Spain, Egypt, and Turkey.

Dresden Airport was used by 390,456 passengers from January to June - 3.3% fewer than in the comparison period. The reason for the low turnout was a nationwide weaker recovery in domestic line traffic and the loss of line connections to Amsterdam and London. The recovery of German air traffic was said to be slower in Europe. Nearly all European countries had already surpassed their pre-Corona levels.

However, at Leipzig Airport, the number of passengers in the first half of the year increased by 10.9% to approximately 938,493. This means that three quarters of all passengers were in the tourist traffic sector. The cargo turnover was around 703,000 tons and thus 2.2% above the previous year's level.

  1. Despite the difference in traffic development, both Saxony's airports in Dresden and Leipzig/Halle are considered popular destinations for leisure and vacation travels, attracting a significant number of tourists.
  2. For individuals planning a journey to Saxony, Leipzig/Halle Airport could be an optimal choice, given its convenient location and the noticeable increase in tourist traffic, reaching approximately 938,493 passengers in the first half of the year.
  3. Furthermore, Leipzig/Halle Airport serves as a hub for air traffic, with a notable 10.9% rise in passenger numbers compared to the previous year, offering connections to popular leisure destinations such as Spain, Egypt, and Turkey.
  4. Leipzig, in particular, is an attractive destination for tourists, with its rich history and cultural offerings, making Leipzig/Halle Airport a viable option for those seeking a vacation or leisure travel experience in Saxony.
