Airport - More passengers at BER - pre-corona level not reached

In the first half of 2024, significantly more people started and landed at the main airport BER than in the comparison period of the previous year, but the level of the important comparison year 2019 could not be reached. According to the airport, a total of 11.8 million people flew to and from BER from January to June.

This represents an increase of twelve percent. The number of takeoffs and landings, according to the airport, increased by 11.7 percent compared to the previous year to around 87,000. For comparison: In the first half of 2019, around 17.5 million passengers were counted at the Berlin airports. The number of takeoffs and landings amounted to 145,000.

The year 2019 is considered an important benchmark in the tourism industry. The pandemic caused declines and significant changes in the perception of air travel. For Berlin tourism, the year 2019 was the most successful so far.

Despite the notable growth in air traffic at BER in the first half of 2024, the airport fell short of reaching the numbers from the benchmark year 2019. Berlin, being the capital city, operates the bustling airport known as BER. The rise in passenger traffic in 2024, with 11.8 million people, indicates a positive trend despite the challenges posed by the Coronavirus. Berlin's Brandenburg Airport (BER) registered an increase of around 12% in departures and arrivals compared to the previous year.
