More injuries and fatalities in road accidents in September
There were more injuries and deaths in road accidents in September than in the same month last year. Around 36,700 people were injured, according to the Federal Statistical Office. This was eight percent more than in September 2022. In addition, the number of fatalities rose by 48 to 297. At around 210,700, the total number of accidents remained roughly the same.
A total of around 1.8 million accidents were registered between January and September 2023. This was four percent more than in the same period last year. Of the approximately 1.8 million accidents, people were injured in 219,200 cases. 2095 people lost their lives. Compared to the same period last year, the number of road fatalities fell by two percent.
In addition, there were one percent fewer accidents with personal injury. In total, around 274,600 people were injured in road accidents between January and September 2023.
The increase in injuries and fatalities in traffic accidents during September was not limited to that month, as the total number of injuries throughout January to September also rose by four percent compared to the previous year. With a total of 297 fatalities, September 2023 saw the highest number of deaths in traffic accidents in that period, representing a significant eight percent increase from September 2022.
