Missing Child Found in Curious Place

A father reports his son missing to the police. Immediately, emergency services begin searching for the three-year-old. After two hours, the boy is found. He hadn't gone far.

A toddler gave his father a good scare - but there was a happy ending. The three-year-old boy went missing on Saturday evening in Gelsenkirchen. Dozens of people and rescue services searched for him.

The place where the child was eventually found after two hours was, according to the police, not where one would expect: "The boy was found sleeping on a pile of laundry in a closet in the house," a spokesperson told dpa.

Search with tracking dog, drones, and thermal imaging camera

The father had reported to the police that his son had apparently slipped away unnoticed from the garden. Immediately, police and fire department personnel, along with numerous neighbors in the vicinity of the house, began searching for the boy. A tracking dog and drones were also deployed.

The happy ending in the frantic search came when a thermal imaging camera was used to find the boy in the closet. "It was probably quiet, or the laundry smelled like mom and dad," the police spokesperson speculated about why the child ended up in the closet.

The police stated that there was no indication of any possible crime. "The child could be safely returned to his parents."

The concerned father's report to the police set off a series of search operations. Despite the involvement of the police, fire department, neighbors, a tracking dog, drones, and thermal imaging camera, it was the thermal camera that finally led to the boy's discovery in an unexpected location within the house.
