Internet - Minister: Data centers particularly important for AI
Hessen should continue to profile itself as an important location for data centers, according to consensus in the Landtag plenum. This is particularly important for the field of Artificial Intelligence, stated Digital Minister Kristina Sinemus (CDU) in Wiesbaden. "Hessen counts with one of the largest internet hubs in the world, De-Cix, and is already today one of the most attractive and important locations for data centers in Europe and the world."
The digital political spokesperson for the Green fraction, Torsten Leveringhaus, urged that data centers should be "energy efficient, regionally balanced planned and located where their waste heat can be largely used." In order to create the necessary framework conditions for this, the state government must act and cannot leave the municipalities alone.
"For the construction of new data centers, there are always two major obstacles: the availability of industrial land and the availability of network capacity," said FDP deputy Oliver Stirböck. Only if the network expansion planning is carried out with high priority can Hessen remain a top location for data centers. Markus Fuchs from the AfD fraction stated that the network infrastructure in Hessen is deficient and must be strengthened.

- During her speech in Wiesbaden, Digital Minister Kristina Sinemus from the CDU highlighted the importance of Hesse, with its energy-efficient data centers and DE-CIX, for the development of Artificial Intelligence.
- To encourage the establishment of more energy-efficient data centers, the CDU-led government in Hesse needs to address the challenges of securing industrial land and improving network capacity, particularly at DE-CIX in Wiesbaden.
