Road closed - Millions looted in cash-in-transit robbery in Italy

At an armed robbery on a money transporter in Southern Italy, a heavily armed commando made off with three million Euros. The gang stopped the transporter with several shots in the morning rush hour traffic on a heavily used road near the city of Brindisi, as the police reported. In addition, they set several other cars on fire to prevent help from reaching the scene. A large black smoke cloud still hung over the crime scene hours later.

The perpetrators - presumably eight to ten people - managed to escape. According to these reports, no one was injured. The five employees of the security company were in shock. The money transporter was damaged. At least three other cars and a delivery van went up in flames. The road was closed in both directions for several hours, causing long traffic jams.

The robbery was a major crime in Southern Italy, drawing attention from law enforcement agencies nationwide. The cash transporter, a valuable asset, was critically damaged during the robbery. The escaped suspects, believed to be part of an organized gang, are now considered high-priority fugitives by the Italian Police. The stolen money, estimated at three million Euros, has yet to be recovered, and the investigation into this robbery in Brindisi continues.
