Close buddie Belarus kicks off broader military exercise, keeping mum about forces and gear involved on a Friday. According to sources in Minsk, this drill involves operational command units, special forces, rocket squads, artillery, air force, and air defense.
The initial phase of the exercise entails troops being transported to the defined battle zones and fortifying their positions there. Following this, combat exercises are anticipated, as per reports.
The training zones mentioned are in the Brest region, west Belarus, bordering Poland, and in the Gomel region, east Belarus, sharing a border with Russia. Both regions also border Ukraine in the north. Belarus, under the authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko, maintains a tight bond with Russia. Moscow has stationed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus and has previously used the nearby country for staging grounds in the conflict against Ukraine.
