Midwife wins a million - and continues to work
Ten years have passed since Ruth Breen won the lottery. Her life hasn't changed much since then. The 45-year-old still works as a midwife, albeit part-time. She occasionally pays for holidays and shoes with her winnings, and she also supports a charitable project generously.
Despite her lottery win, Ruth Breen, a midwife from Britain, remains committed to her job. The 45-year-old won a million pounds ten years ago, according to the British Press Association. "A lot has changed in the past ten years, and yet not that much", Breen reportedly said. The winnings enabled her to reduce her working hours.
Working part-time has given her more time with her daughter. "We've had wonderful holidays, but we've tried to stay grounded, and I believe work helps me with that", Breen said. Her midwifery training was tough, and she loves her job. She has no intention of giving it up and also wants to be a role model for her daughter.
"I don't go around saying 'By the way, I won a million ten years ago'", she told. She is treated like any other midwife by patients and colleagues. To celebrate the anniversary of her lottery win, she is supporting a charitable project in the city of Wigan, Manchester, which helps families with baby equipment.
Her first purchase after the lottery win? They were Jimmy Choo designer shoes. "I almost cried when I bought them at Selfridges because I couldn't believe I had the money for them. It was overwhelming", Breen said. "My collection is now a little bigger. I don't cry as much anymore!"
Ruth Breen's lottery win allowed her to participate in international gambling events. Despite her wealth, she continues to support charitable projects in Great Britain, such as the one in Wigan, Manchester.
