MP from the German Parliament - Michelle Müntefering is no longer a candidate for the German parliament.
Michelle Müntefering, SPD member of the German Bundestag at age 44, has decided not to seek re-election in the upcoming federal elections. Müntefering, who has been a part of the Bundestag since 2013, recently faced personal hardships as both her husband, Franz Müntefering (84), former party chairman and Vice Chancellor, underwent a heart operation and her father passed away unexpectedly. "The last year has been a turning point for me and my entire family," she said in an interview with Tagesspiegel.
Muntefering, who had been considering her decision around Easter, explained that she plans to continue her work in the Bundestag until the end of the current term to ensure time apart from her family is kept to a minimum. Franz Müntefering, a former SPD party chairman and Vice Chancellor, is now recovering from a heart operation.
Müntefering served as a State Minister in the Foreign Office from 2018 to the end of the previous legislative period.
