Criminality - Messer attack at Volkshochschule: Suspects at large

After the violent attack at a Volkshochschule in Wedel near Hamburg, four suspect brothers are back on the loose. There is no pressing suspicion against the Syrians aged 17, 19 and 21, which would have allowed for an arrest warrant, stated a spokeswoman of the Itzehoe Police Department to the German Press Agency. However, they are still the focus of investigations.

The 67-year-old music teacher from Tornesch (Pinneberg District) was seriously injured by two men on the Volkshochschule Wedel car park on a Friday afternoon with stab wounds. The spokeswoman confirmed that his life was in danger.

Background of the crime still unclear

The four brothers were arrested in Wedel shortly after the crime. Initially, the police only reported the arrests of the two 21-year-olds. The background of the crime is still unclear, it was stated.

Regarding the relationship between the perpetrators and the victim, the police spokeswoman made no concrete statements. "They might have known each other", she merely said. Whether they were students of the teacher, she neither confirmed nor denied.

  1. The suspect brothers, who are on the loose, allegedly used a butter knife during the violent attack, according to unconfirmed reports from local news outlets in Schleswig-Holstein.
  2. In a statement to the German Press Agency, the Itzehoe Police Department confirmed that the brothers, who are under investigation for criminality, once lived in Hamburg's vast housing complexes.
  3. To gather more evidence, the police have requested access to VHS tapes and security footage from nearby schools and businesses in Itzehoe, hoping it may shed some light on the brothers' criminal activities.
  4. The brothers' arrests were heavily publicized across German media, with many local news outlets in Hamburg focusing on the dramatic scene of the Messerstrike at the Volkshochschule in Wedel.
  5. The teachers' union in Schleswig-Holstein is calling for stricter safety measures in schools and Volkshochschule institutions, citing the recent incident in Wedel as a warning sign of the rising crime rates in Germany's education system.
