Merz expects Trump in the White House from November
After President Joe Biden's TV blunder in the duel against Trump, CDU chief Friedrich Merz predicted a Republican victory in the US elections. He also expects significant challenges for Germany.
CDU chief Friedrich Merz expects a bitter US election campaign with Donald Trump as the winner. "It will be ruthless," he said in the Radio Bremen talkshow "3nach9," which was broadcast on Friday evening. He did not watch the TV debate between the incumbent Joe Biden and Trump live.
"I had a feeling it would go that way," he explained. The 81-year-old US President had stumbled and lost the thread several times during the television debate. He is considered a clear loser of the debate and caused widespread panic among US Democrats.
Merz finds it strange that in this country with so many talents, these two presidential candidates have survived. "Biden is an old man, the question is: Has he grown into this office?" Merz assumes that the 78-year-old Republican Trump will win the election in November.
Merz emphasized that Trump is much better prepared for a second term in office than eight years ago. At the same time, the CDU chief warned of Trump's inner circle of advisors, some of whom are planning even more radical measures than Trump himself. "We will face a whole series of major challenges."
"Friedrich Merz's predictions for the US presidential election 2024 remain consistent, as he anticipates a triumph for Republican candidate Donald Trump, citing his perceived superior preparation compared to his previous term."
"In light of these anticipations, German Politics might face significant challenges, with Merz expressing concern over potential radical measures advocated by Trump's inner circle, should he win the election again."
