Mercedes-Benz experienced a decrease in vehicle sales compared to the same period the previous year.
In the third quarter of this year, Mercedes-Benz noticed a decrease in vehicle sales, specifically a drop of around 3% compared to the same time frame in 2023. A total of 594,600 cars and vans were sold during this period. The Stuttgart-based automaker reported this decline. As of now, Mercedes has sold a total of 1.76 million vehicles for the year, representing a 5% decrease compared to the same period last year.
The van segment encountered the most significant decline, with a sales decrease of 13%. Approximately 91,000 vans were sold, leading to this decrease. The car division followed suit with a 1% decrease in sales, selling 503,600 vehicles. The premium segment, which includes the S-Class, also saw a 12% decrease in sales.
Previously, Mercedes showed more confidence in the second half of the year, attributing this to the introduction of new models. However, car sales slightly increased from the previous quarter due to improved product availability. Despite this minor improvement, weaker demand, primarily in Asia, heavily impacted sales. In the crucial Chinese market, sales dropped by 13%. Nevertheless, Mercedes managed to sell one-third of its cars in China, with 170,700 vehicles sold.
The decline in vehicle sales affected various segments, with the van segment experiencing the most significant drop at 13%. Overall, Mercedes-Benz sold a diverse range of vehicles, including cars, vans, and those from the premium segment, totalling 594,600 units in the third quarter.
