Men should wear more lipstick

Whether red or blue, with a mustache or without: Men should, according to lipstick expert René Koch, put on lipstick.

Appearance - Men should wear more lipstick

Men should, according to Berlin makeup artist René Koch, wear more lipstick from a man's perspective. "It doesn't have to be red. All colors can be used, for example blue," Koch told the German Press Agency on Lipstick Day on July 29. A beard is no obstacle, on the contrary: "That looks nice, a beard and then the lips. If a man has a beard, then the lips really recede into the background," Koch said.

With lipstick, one can emphasize the lips more. Cosmetics are not only recommended for aesthetic reasons, but above all for care: "The lipstick has sun protection, cold protection and protects against wind," Koch emphasized.

Already in the Baroque era

The collector - also known as Mr. Lipstick - operates a private lipstick exhibition with exhibits, posters, and recipes from the Baroque period to the 19th century. "Lipstick for men is not new. It was all there before. In the Baroque era, men made their lips rather dark red, even Casanova," Koch said.

Many rock musicians also used lipstick. "They had their lips black or dark red and raspberry colored. Why not? It's an expression of personality. Why should lipstick only be for women?" Koch asked.

Collector sees future

There are numerous products for men, but lipstick has not yet gained widespread acceptance. That could change soon, according to the makeup artist: "Now that everything is gender-neutral and rainbow-colored - it's likely to start in the fashion scene and spread," he speculated. Koch was formerly a celebrity makeup artist - for stars like Zarah Leander, Hildegard Knef, and Joan Collins.

In the past, men in the Baroque era also used lipstick, often making their lips dark red, even like Casanova. This practice of men wearing lipstick is not a new concept, as Koch pointed out. Many rock musicians in the past had their lips painted black, dark red, or raspberry colored, demonstrating that lipstick is not exclusive to women. Despite the availability of various products for men, lipstick has not yet gained widespread acceptance among them. However, Koch believes that this could change soon, particularly as society becomes more gender-neutral and colorful, starting from the fashion scene.
