Member of the Bertelsmann family Carsten Coesfeld joins the company's Executive Board
Another member of the Bertelsmann family is to join the Executive Board. Carsten Coesfeld will be responsible for the new Investments and Financial Solutions division from January 1, 2024, as the media, services and education group announced on Thursday following a decision by the Supervisory Board. The 36-year-old grandson of company patriarch Reinhard Mohn, who died in 2009, has been responsible for the BI investment division since June 2022. "As a member of the Executive Board, he will help develop the Group holistically in the future," explained Bertelsmann Supervisory Board Chairman Christoph Mohn.
There has long been speculation in the industry as to whether Coesfeld or his younger brother Thomas, who heads the BMG music business, are destined for higher office at Bertelsmann. Thomas Rabe has been Group CEO in Gütersloh since 2012 and has also been head of the television subsidiary RTL since April 2019. The 58-year-old's contract runs until the end of 2026. Carsten Coesfeld studied business administration and started his career at Bertelsmann in 2011 as assistant to the CEO. "He knows Bertelsmann in its many facets, has led several businesses to growth and profitability and is setting an important course for the future of the company at Bertelsmann Investments," said Rabe about his future Executive Board colleague.
